Ogun varsity students warned to stay indoors during 12-hour ritual rites for late Ago Iwoye chief
Students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State, have been warned to stay indoors for 12 hours, from 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, to 7:00 a.m., on Wednesday.
The notice noted that the movement restriction period, scheduled for the ritual purposes, followed the death of the Eduwe of Ago Iwoye and Oloja Agemo, High Chief Bakare Onabanjo (Oyinkikoro).
It read, “Good Day, Dearest OOUITES. We kindly bring to your attention an important announcement.
“Following the passing of High Chief Onabanjo Oyinkikoro, Traditional Ruler and Agemo of Ago Iwoye, ritual rites will be observed.
“No movement is permitted from 7:00PM Tuesday to 7:00AM Wednesday, and nightly until further notice. For your safety and in respect of tradition, please remain indoors, inform your course mates, and ensure strict compliance.”
Spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, did not respond to calls and messages seeking comment about the authenticity of the notice, including measures the police were taking to ensure students’ safety.
