Ogun woman arraigned over alleged theft of plantain valued at N5 million

A 35-year old woman, Emmanuel Grace, was on Thursday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, Isabo, Ogun State, over alleged stealing of plantain valued N5 million.
Grace, whose address was not provided, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, ASP Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the defendant committed the offences at about 1.00p.m on August 8, at Sogoyinbo Village, Owode-Egba, Abeokuta.
Mr Olu-Balogun stated that Grace unlawfully entered the premises of Lonstel Farm Ltd and stole several bunches of plantain.
He said that the defendant unlawfully harvested the plantains valued at N5 million before they reached maturity.
The prosecutor said that Grace was apprehended by security guards at the farm and handed over to the police.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 390(9) and 516 of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, A.K. Araba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.
She said that the surety must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary, and adjourned the case until September 29 for hearing.
