Okada rider gets life imprisonment for raping 21-year-old

The Abeokuta High Court on Thursday sentenced a 29-year-old motorcyclist, Jamiu Adegesin, to life imprisonment for raping a 21-year-old woman.
Mr Adegesin, who had pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of rape, was convicted for forcibly having sexual intercourse with the 21-year-old.
Delivering her judgment, the Chief Judge of Ogun, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, held that all evidence presented before the court by the prosecution was tenable and found the convict guilty as charged.
Mrs Dipeolu consequently sentenced Mr Adegesin to life imprisonment.
The prosecution and chief state counsel, Oluwaseni Ogunjimi, had told the court during the trial that the convict committed the offence on August 18, 2018, in the Temidare Sabo area in Abeokuta.
Ms Ogunjimi said the Okada rider picked up the victim from the Lafenwa area while she was returning from her workplace in the evening and took her to one of his friends’ house.
She added that while the convict and the victim got to the house, Mr Adegesin threatened the victim with a broken bottle and grabbed her neck with a threat to kill her before raping her.
