The Ondo State House of Assembly has promised to ensure that all state-owned media organisations will be vibrant in the dissemination of information and creative content.

The chairman of the House committee on information, Olatunji Oshati, stated this during a familiarisation visit to the Owena Press Ltd. and the Ondo State Broadcasting Corporation (OSRC) in Akure on Monday.

Mr Oshati said that there was need for government to invest and place emphasis on the state-controlled media outfits’ efficiency and high productivity.

He said that communication was a proper tool for a robust relationship between the government and the people.

He said that it was only vibrant journalism that would make government’s programmes and policies acceptable.

The committee chairman appreciated the chairman of Owena Press Ltd., Ademola Adetula, for his unrelenting efforts in keeping the print media organisation functional in spite of the paucity of funds.

He urged the management of the outfit to synergise with the House of Assembly.

Mr Oshati enjoined the media organisation to include attractive reports in its paper instead of filling the paper with only news items.

Earlier, Mr Adetula said that the Hope Paper, produced by the organisation, could only get to three states of Osun, Ondo and Ekiti due to limited cost of operation.

He said that he introduced online initiative to report the content of the paper.

According to him, the organisation is the largest employer of journalists in the state, dishing out fair and accurate reports of government activities and that of the people of the state.

At the OSRC, the committee chairman commended the consolidation move initiated by the corporation’s chairman, Kunle Adebayo.

Mr Oshati described OSRC as a unified factor and a pride of the state.

He urged Mr Adebayo to do his best in ensuring that the OSRC TV is back on air.

“We came here and we have seen all the chairman has done. The massive renovation and the policy of consolidated stations.

“All the media stations of the state government have been brought down here and he is massively working on them.

“We are satisfied with what we saw and we can assure the people that in a couple of times, OSRC TV will be back very soon,” he said.

Mr Oshati assured the corporation of the state House of Assembly’s support.

He advised the corporation’s chairman to always motivate the staff so that they could give their best which would culminate in high efficiency and productivity.

Earlier, the chairman of the OSRC said that the corporation was a foremost media organisation in the state and a bridge that connected the government with the people.

Mr Adebayo said that OSRC was established to give correct and accurate information to the people of the state.

He explained that to reduce the cost of operations of the corporation, he had consolidated all three media stations under one roof.

According to him, the corporation has contacted Benin Electricity Distributor Company (BEDC) to give the corporation a dedicated power line that will supply electricity for at least 16 hours per day.

He stated that the television arm of the corporation had a temporary close broadcast because of a thunderstorm that affected its mast and some equipment.

Mr Adebayo said that he had installed high technology and recruited young and creative people who could give outstanding content.

He promised that the television station would soon be on the Gotv cable.
