Ondo electrician in court over alleged theft of N275,000 cables

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

A 35-year-old electrician, Kayode Fadeni, on Thursday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly stealing electrical cables worth N275,000.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge bordering on felony and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ayodeji Omoyeigha, told the court that the defendant on June 27, around 12:15 p.m. at an uncompleted building on Okitipupa-Ikoya road in the Okitipupa Magisterial District, committed felony.

He alleged that the defendant stole electrical cables at the uncompleted building, property of the complainant, Idowu Odidiomo

The prosecutor added that the offences contravened Sections 512 and 390 (9), of the Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The Chief Magistrate, Mayowa Olanipekun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with a surety in like sum.

He added that the surety, who must reside within the court jurisdiction, must also show and present evidence of two years tax payment made to the state government.

He adjourned the case until September 10, for further hearing.
