The Ondo government has relaxed the 24-hour dawn-to-dusk curfew imposed on Ikare Akoko in the Akoko Northeast local council area following a breach of peace.

Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the Commissioner for information and Orientation, disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing government house reporters in Akure.

“The curfew imposed on Ikare has been relaxed…,” Ms Ademola-Olateju told the reporters shortly after the government’s executive council meeting, warning against any fresh clashes.

Last week, Ikare Akoko, one of the commercial hubs in Ondo, witnessed a violent clash. The melee started penultimate Tuesday when youths from a part of the town staged a New Year carnival.

The town had been embroiled in supremacy battles between the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh, and the Owa Ale of Iyometa, Oba Adeleke Adedoyin-Adegbite.

In August 2022, the Ondo government elevated the Owa-Ale to a first-class traditional ruler, giving the town two first-class monarchs.
