Senator representing Ondo South in the National Assembly and one of the governorship aspirants in the ruling All Progressives Congress, Jimoh Ibrahim, has said the people of Ondo State would soon go to sleep with their two eyes closed if becomes the state governor.

Mr Ibrahim, who spoke on Wednesday, said securing the borders of the state against activities of bandits and kidnappers was his priority in joining the governorship race.

He explained that his desire was to map the borders of the state, using the regional security network (Amotekun) with the help of technology in combating the security challenges, particularly in the cases of kidnapping and banditry.

He added, “One of the areas we are looking at is to ensure that everybody in Ondo State can go to sleep with their eyes closed and that’s topmost of our priority. Mapping every system, the tactical operations of Amotekun have to come more distinct into technology; I want an Amotekun that is IT informed.

“So, we need to do more of IT, our government will ensure that Amotekun is IT compliance through strategy and renovation and is going to be well funded to ensure that people of Ondo State can go and sleep,” he told journalists at an interactive session.

Mr Ibrahim, who holds a PhD in Modern War Studies from the University of Buckingham, explained that in improving the living standard of the people, their security and well-being matter.

The Ondo senator noted that one of the strategies he was working on in tackling the security challenges and ensuring the lives and property of the people are secure is the introduction of a “residence card.”

According to him, the residence card known as the “Aseyori card” will have the database of residents in the state and make it easy for the state government to know the population and how to address any security issue.

He stated, “And if we have security first, if we can be secured individually, we will secure the state. So, I’m saying now that the Amotekun will have the highest attention in terms of information technology, I am a security expert. I may not be wearing a military uniform because I have a PhD in War. When I become the governor, we must have residence cards. We will know all your data.”

While unveiling his campaign hinged on the cardinal points of security, economic growth, infrastructure, unemployment, poverty alleviation and power sector reform, Mr Ibrahim added that his ambition to govern the state was not negotiable with his credentials and experience in public office.

“We are going to face infrastructural development by making sure that we create employment through that. So we should expect the bitumen act that I’m moving at the Senate, which is now at the third reading to be more prominent and classic in engagement.

“Also in the North, we are going to do swap contracts. We are not going to spend kobo on our roads. Also, the civil service will be instrumental in running the government to ensure that they are computerised. We are to devote powers to commissioners to make them powerful so that they will not be running after the governor for any approval.

“After the primaries, there would be a booklet on what we will do in the first six months, one year and so on. I don’t need to go and meet BEDC before Ondo State can have light, at Cambridge where I studied for six years, we generated our electricity by wind and solar, so we have solar farms there and others. So there are many ways to get electricity. We might decide to map the state entirely to have electricity.”
