The Acting Rector, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), Ondo State, Dr Olorunwa Adegun, has urged the institution’s staff to shun industrial crisis for the continuation of smooth academic activities.

Mr Adegun made the appeal at the 33rd matriculation for the 2025/2026 academic session of RUGIPO for 3,500 new students on Thursday at the institution’s campus in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.

He said the appeal was necessary to show gratitude to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for “rescuing the institution from the bottomless pit of hopelessness.”

The rector recalled that it was the governor who ended varying percentage payment of the staff salaries.

According to him, the governor has substantially increased the institution’s monthly subvention.

Mr Adegun also said management had complemented the governor’s efforts through the deployment of resources from the institution’s Internally-Generated Revenue (IGR).

The rector explained that through the repeated release of special intervention fund by Mr Aiyedatiwa, 14 months unpaid salaries had been reduced to three months.

“The governor, through his intervention, averted an outright de-accreditation of 63 academic programmes, while his fatherly roles also broke a 12-year old no-convocation jinx in RUGIPO.

“New students should shun any act that violates the institution’s rules and regulations. Any student found culpable in any misconduct could lose their studentship,” he said.

Mr Adegun promised that the school’s management would sustain efforts aimed at making the polytechnic campus a very safe and secure learning-friendly environment.

The rector urged students of the institution to pay the approved fees and complete registration formalities as made compulsory by extant procedures of the institution.
