The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) says a lone vehicular accident has claimed the life of a driver on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said in a statement that the accident occurred at Charity Bus Stop, inward Iyana Isolo, on Saturday morning.

Mr Bakare-Oki said that LASTMA, in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, carried out swift rescue and recovery operations following the accident.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the Honda Pilot Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) involved suddenly lost control and overturned multiple times before coming to a halt.

“The impact led to the immediate death of the driver, whose body was trapped in the wreckage.

“LASTMA officers, who were on routine traffic monitoring duty in the Iyana Isolo axis, responded promptly to the emergency,” he said.

He said that LASTMA officers, working alongside personnel from the Mosafejo Police Division, extricated the deceased from the vehicle while maintaining traffic flow to prevent further accidents.

Mr Bakare-Oki said that officers of the Lagos State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit took the remains of the driver to a public mortuary in line with health regulations.

“The wrecked vehicle was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigations into the cause of the crash,” he said.

He urged motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, especially during late-night and early-morning travels.

Mr Bakare-Oki warned against reckless driving, excessive speeding and dangerous overtaking, saying that the preservation of human life must remain a priority for all road users.

He emphasised that no journey is worth risking lives through unsafe driving practices.
