One killed, several others kidnapped in Kogi church attack

Bandits attacked a place of worship belonging to the Evangelical Church Winning All in Ayetoro-Kiri community, Kabba-Bunu in Kogi on Sunday.
One person was reportedly killed in the incident, while several worshippers were kidnapped. A witness said attackers stormed the church during an ongoing worship session, firing sporadically to frighten the gathered congregation.
“It is not clear how many were killed yet. The parishioners were holding a Sunday service when the assailants struck. So far, one person has been confirmed dead, and many families are reporting missing relatives,” the witness stated.
Reacting to the attack, the lawmaker representing the Kogi-West senatorial district, Sunday Karimi, expressed concern over the recurring attacks.
Urging collaborative efforts to curb the trend of insecurity, Mr Karimi charged the federal and state governments to tackle the coordinated attacks.
“The worsening security situation in the entire district calls for urgent intervention, from both federal and state governments, as well as all stakeholders, to tackle the issue head-on, and rescue the people from the bandits’ attack,” Mr Karimi said.
The senator added, “Today, similar incidents have occurred in Oke-Agi and Ilai communities in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi state, where people were kidnapped and killed in one of the Tiv communities in the area.”
The police command in Kogi could not immediately comment on the attack.
