The police command in Edo claims it has killed one of the criminals who kidnapped a Catholic priest.

Kidnappers abducted Christopher Idia, a Catholic priest of St Michael Catholic Church, lkhabigbo, Etsako West local government area on Sunday.

“The abductors killed the priest as well as a hunter,’’ police spokeswoman Jennifer Iwegbu, stated on Monday in Benin.

She disclosed that a combined team of police operatives and vigilantes had earlier attempted to rescue the priest.

“The police personnel who went on the trail of the kidnappers decimated one of them, while other gang members escaped with various gunshot injuries,’’ she said.

Ms Iwegbu assured the public that the fleeing kidnappers would be arrested and prosecuted.
