Suspected members of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on Saturday invaded Kautikari village of the Chibok Local Government Area in Borno State, setting classrooms ablaze and leaving one person wounded.

It was gathered that the incident took place about 7 p.m, forcing residents to run into the bush for safety.

When contacted for a comment, police spokesperson, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, confirmed the incident.

“Yesterday, at about 8:30 p.m., we received a report of attempted invasion into Kautikari village by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists. On getting the report, security forces were able to repel the attempt to overrun the town.

“Unfortunately, one 50-year-old was fatally wounded and two classrooms of GDSS Kautikari were set ablaze by the suspects.

“As of now, the area is calm amd intensified patrols are currently ongoing. There was no abduction of students during the attempted attack,” Mr Daso stated.

Chibok local council had come under heightened attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in recent times.

In April, terrorists stormed Awapul, also in Chibok, shooting sporadically before wreaking havoc on critical infrastructure, including private homes and shops.

The attack came after suspected Boko Haram terrorists invaded an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp at Damasak and the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in the state, burnt an unserviceable armoured personnel carrier and killed four police officers and one hunter.
