Ooni hails Afenifere leader Fasoranti at 100

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has described the Afenifere leader, Reuben Fasoranti, as one of the few surviving pillars of wisdom and moral leadership in Nigeria.
This was noted in a statement by the monarch on Monday, to mark Mr Fasoranti’s 100th birthday.
The Ooni described Mr Fasoranti’s life as “a century of sacrifice, courage and unwavering service to humanity”.
He said Mr Fasoranti’s journey over the last 100 years has been one marked by integrity, selflessness and uncommon dedication to the progress of the Yoruba race and Nigeria as a whole.
The Ooni noted that reaching the age of 100 is not only a rare privilege but also a testimony to a purposeful life spent fighting for justice, fairness, good governance and the well-being of the people.
Mr Ogunwusi said the Afenifere leader has remained consistent on issues affecting the Yoruba people and the nation.
According to him, Mr Fasoranti has, over the decades, built a reputation as a fearless patriot who placed service above personal interests, earning him respect across political, cultural and religious boundaries.
The monarch added that beyond his contributions to politics and public service, the centenarian is admired for his humility, simplicity and fatherly role to many Nigerians.
“Baba Fasoranti represents a generation that believed in sacrifice, honour and genuine love for the people. His life continues to remind us that true leadership is about service, integrity and commitment to humanity,” the Ooni stated.
The Ooni further described the elder statesman as a symbol of Yoruba unity and resilience whose contributions to nation-building would remain indelible in history.
“As he celebrates 100 remarkable years on earth, we celebrate not just his age, but the values he has stood for throughout his lifetime. Baba has inspired generations with his wisdom, courage and steadfastness,” the statement added.
