Officials from the Oyo State Post Primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), on Thursday, assured victims of the recent school abduction in Oriire Local Government Area of the state, of continued government support towards recovery.

A statement by Dotun Oyelade, the state’s Commissioner for Information, said the visit to the rescued victims was led by the TESCOM chairman, permanent secretary and other senior officials.

“A delegation from the Oyo State Post Primary Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), led by its chairman, permanent secretary and other senior TESCOM officials, has paid a sympathy visit to teachers and students involved in the recent abduction at Oriire Local Government Area of the state,” Mr Oyelade said.

The commissioner explained that the visit to the freed victims and their immediate families was to express concern and restate the state government’s commitment to their recovery, safety and welfare.

In her remark, the chairman of the teaching service commission, Olubukola Oladipo praised the victims for displaying courage and resilience during the traumatic experience.

Ms Oladipo reaffirmed that the state government would not relent in its efforts to ensure the victims return fully to their normal activities.

She disclosed that the government had been working on a new safety mechanism that would prevent the reoccurrence of school abduction incidents in the state.

In her address, Serifat Abimbola, the commission’s permanent secretary, charged the affected teachers and students not to be weighed down by the incident.

Ms Abimbola, who distributed gifts and other relief materials to the abductees, stated that the government’s support was to improve the victims’ mental recovery from the trauma. 

One of the rescued teachers thanked the officials for the visit, describing it as a source of comfort and encouragement.
