Oscars 2023: Tems, Rihanna nominated for ‘best original song’ in Black Panther

They were nominated for the movie soundtrack ‘lift me up’, written by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson.

Nigerian music star Tems has been nominated for an Oscar alongside Barbadian singer Rihanna, in the ‘best original song’ category for the marvel blockbuster movie soundtrack ‘lift me up’.

Black Panther’s lead single from the soundtrack album Wakanda Forever, was written by Tems, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler, and Oscar winner Ludwig Göransson.

The nominees were announced at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on January 24.

‘Lift me up’ was nominated alongside ‘Hold My Hand’ by Lady Gaga for Top Gun: Maverick, ‘Applause’ by Diane Warren from Tell It Like a Woman, and ‘Naatu Naatu’ from the Indian blockbuster movie RRR.

Ever since its release on October 28, 2022, ‘Lift Me Up’ has topped most streaming charts, topping number 1 in South Africa, Switzerland, Belgium, and other countries. It also made the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Although, having received tremendous recognition in their crafts with multiple prestigious awards and nominations, this is Tems and Rihanna’s first Oscar nomination.

Winners will be announced at the 95th Academy Awards, which will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California on March 12.
