Osun 2026: EU-SDGN tasks INEC on seamless electronic transmission of results
The European Union Support for Democratic Governance in Nigeria Election Observation Hub (EU-SDGN EOH) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the timely distribution of sensitive election materials to all polling units in Osun State.
The observers urged INEC to ensure that accreditation and voting exercises commence by 8:30 a.m across all the 3,763 polling units in the state.
A statement on Friday by the election observation group comprising the Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO), the International Press Centre (IPC), the Nigerian Women Trust Fund (NWTF), TAF Africa, The Kukah Centre (TKC) and Yiaga Africa, urged INEC to guarantee seamless electronic transmission of validated polling unit results to the IReV portal in real time.
The group also urged INEC to ensure the availability of Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) backup to avoid disruptions during accreditation and voting.
The group urged the commission to also “publish a clear protocol explaining the end-to-end results-transmission process.”
It stated that the clarification should include the purpose of the electronic EC8A and the backend validation step preceding publication on the IReV.
The group tasked the electoral body with the need to ensure “transparent and timely announcement of results at all levels, from polling units to Registration Areas, Local Government Areas and the State Collation Centre.”
It called on the commission to deploy trained officials and adequate assistive voting devices to women, people with disabilities (PWDs) and other vulnerable persons.
