The Osun government has deployed 1,750 Imole Youth Corps to public primary and secondary schools. This was announced in a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday.

The corps is an initiative that engages youths from the 332 political wards to provide services in health, security, environment, and education.

The statement stated that the government would also demand a greater deployment of members of the National Youth Service Corps to public schools in Osun.

It stated that the measure was a stopgap action to address personnel shortage in some schools and to prepare the ground for the expansion of teaching personnel in critical subject areas.

According to the statement, Imole corps members are holders of the Nigeria Certificate of Education and university degrees.

The statement stated that the Osun government was committed to strengthening the school system through multiple innovations to improve Osun’s performance in national and local examinations.

“We will recruit more teachers once the financial climate improves. We are, however, committed to ensuring a narrowing of the personnel gap in our schools. That is why we innovated on the Imole Teachers Corps. We will train and retrain those presently in service,” it said.

The statement commended school principals, members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, and the Parents-Teachers Association in Osun.

“We will continue to improve the learning environment for our pupils and students. To this end, we commend the private school operators. They are a critical sector in the positive development of education in our dear state,” the statement said.
