The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 operatives and 50 operational vehicles, including seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances, to respond to road traffic and emergency response concerns during Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.

A statement on Friday by Osondu Ohaeri, a spokesman for FRSC, said the deployment would cover three senatorial districts and all operational areas in the state.

FRSC said the deployment “is designed to ensure seamless traffic management, prompt emergency response, clearance of road obstructions and strict compliance with the restriction/no-movement order during the election period”.

The FRSC disclosed that the deployment comprised 2,300 operatives from the Osun sector command, alongside 50 officers each from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, and Ogun sector Commands.

“The corps has equally positioned its operational and rescue assets at strategic locations to ensure that road users, election officials, accredited observers, security personnel and other members of the public experience a safe and orderly movement environment throughout the electoral process,” the statement said.

The FRSC marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the deployment was proof of the corps’ commitment to contribute to a peaceful, safe and credible electoral process, within its statutory mandate of road safety and traffic management.

Mr Mohammed said the corps’ personnel would operate with strict professionalism, neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights.

He added that the deployed officers would work closely with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and other relevant agencies.

“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Mr Mohammed said.

He vowed to strictly enforce restriction or no-movement order within designated areas during the election.

“Vehicles earmarked for enforcement of the restriction will commence deployment from 0600HRS on Saturday, 15 August 2026, with personnel positioned at strategic locations across the state.

“Beyond enforcement of the movement restriction, FRSC operatives will undertake intensive traffic control, crowd management, clearance of obstructions and rescue operations before, during and after the election,” he added.
