Osun Poll: Adeleke deserves second term, says Accord chairman
The leadership of Accord has urged Osun people to massively vote for Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The party also frowned at the action of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, for the recent freezing of the Osun State accounts, saying that the EFCC boss should resign.
The party’s national chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, made the call during a news conference on Friday in Abuja.
He said the achievements recorded by Mr Adeleke in the past three and a half years were very clear for the people of the state to support his second term bid, but noted with concern the action of the EFCC chairman.
“What the EFCC chairman did was a calculated attempt to weaken the operations of the state and thereby narrowing the electoral chances of the incumbent Gov. Adeleke.’’
Mr Mgbudem also decried the alleged harassment of members of Accord in the state by some security operatives.
He, nonetheless, praised President Bola Tinubu for his prompt intervention by ordering the unfreezing of the state’s bank accounts by the EFCC.
He appealed to Mr Tinubu and the Inspector General of Police to secure the immediate release of 60 detained Accord members across Abuja, Osun and Nasarawa states to help reduce political tension.
Mr Mgbudem also urged the electorate to back the incumbent administration for a second term, citing its proven track record in providing infrastructure and good governance, among other achievements.
“The leadership of Accord is calling on the electorate in Osun to come out en masse on August 15 and vote for Adeleke, their amiable governor on the platform of Accord and protect their votes.
“Having done well in his first term, Adeleke deserves a second term to usher in better, greater and prosperous things in Osun,” he noted.
He equally called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a transparent, free and fair process, urging security agencies to remain professional and non-partisan.
”Osun residents should be allowed to exercise their civic rights, freedom and liberty to elect their governor.
“The people are in one accord with Gov. Adeleke, who has demonstrated exceptional capacity to govern the state,” Mr Mgbudem said.
