The Imole Campaign Council says four members of the Accord Party have been killed in the Ilesa area of Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, the spokesperson for the group, in a statement, said the supporters were killed on Thursday.

He said, “The Imole Campaign Council has received the shocking news of the killing of four Accord Party members in Ilesa, Osun State. The innocent persons were murdered today because of their political choice and support for Governor Ademola Adeleke.

“More concerning, the four Accord Party members were killed in Ilesa, which falls within Osun East Senatorial District of Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who directed All Progressives Congress members two days ago to kill Accord Party members.”

Recall that the Peoples Gazette had reported that a senator representing Osun East, Francis Fadahunsi, had asked supporters of his party to “kill” Accord members.

“This is no longer politics. Osun State has witnessed too many killings today alone. No political ambition is worth the blood of innocent citizens,” Mr Olajengbesi stated.

The spokesman urged the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to ensure that the killings are thoroughly investigated and that those responsible are brought to justice.

Abiodun Ojelabi, spokesman for the state police command, did not respond to several phone calls from the Gazette. He also did not respond to the SMS sent to him as of press time.

This comes barely 48 hours before the election, in which 15 governorship candidates are contesting to lead the state for another four years.

Osun State has recorded pre-election violence and killings across several local government areas ahead of the governorship election.
