Osun residents travel to polling units ahead of Saturday election
Some residents of Osogbo, on Friday, besieged motor parks across the state capital to travel to their various destinations ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Visits to some motor parks showed residents arriving from other states, while others were leaving the state capital in preparation for the election.
One of the travellers, Mufiyat Kolawole, said she was heading to Ejigbo with her siblings and relatives to vote for the candidate of her choice.
Ms Kolawole said she decided to embark on the journey because her permanent voter card (PVC) was registered in Ejigbo and she could not transfer her voting location to Osogbo.
She added that she would ensure her registration polling unit is transferred to Osogbo after the governorship election, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We all pray for a peaceful election, and we urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible process and declare the winner in accordance with the law,” she said.
Another resident, Kazeem Abdullazeez, said at the Okefia motor park that he had been voting in Iwo Local Government Area since 2013.
Mr Abdullazeez said he expected his brother who resides in the United Kingdom to also return to the state to cast his vote.
He appealed to political actors contesting the governorship election to embrace whoever emerges winner and avoid violence, harassment and intimidation.
“Some of my relatives are travelling from Kwara, Oyo and Lagos states to Osun to participate in the election,” Mr Abdullazeez stated.
For Oluwatoyin Adebiyi, who was travelling to Esa-Oke, her hometown, she decided to return early to avoid any difficulty getting home before the election day.
“I registered to vote in my community, and I want to be there early enough to exercise my franchise.
“I believe every voter should make an effort to participate in the election because the outcome will determine the direction of the state for the next four years,” she said.
Eligible voters across the state’s 30 local government areas will cast their ballots to elect a governor who will lead Osun for the next four years.
