Owerri Jailbreak: Police beef up Lagos prisons security

Amid the daring attack on Owerri prison leading to the escape of about 2,000 inmates, the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered immediate deployment of more operatives to prisons state to forestall any form of attack.

The spokesman for the command, Olumuyinwa Adejobi, stated this in a statement on Wednesday.

Mr Adejobi stated the police decided on the deployment after the Lagos police boss met with the Comptroller of Correctional Service in Lagos, Francis Adebisi, in his Ikeja office.

According to the statement, Mr Odumosu promised the comptroller that the police command would sustain mobile policemen’s deployment to the prisons in Lagos.

He also promised to partner the NCoS and other stakeholders to improve the state’s criminal justice system.

The statement also quoted Mr Adebisi to have commended Mr Odumosu for providing adequate security for the residents of the state.

The police boss met with the Lagos prisons boss in Lagos a day after gunmen stormed the police command headquarters and prison in Owerri.

Inmates numbering 1,844 escaped following the attack while property were set ablaze.
