The Oyo State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, passed the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (Amendment) Bill 2026.

This followed the presentation and clause-by-clause consideration of the report of its committee on public petitions, justice and judiciary.

The report was presented by Abideen Ogundare of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the Ogooluwa/Surulere constituency.

Also during plenary, Oluwafemi Oluwafowokanmi (APM), Ibadan South-West constituency, drew the attention of the House to the absence of toilet facilities in several commercial buildings.

The motion was titled: “The Need For The Executive Arm of Government To Mandate Commercial Properties Within Ibadan Metropolis To Provide Public Toilet Facilities To Curb Open Defecation.”

Mr Oluwafowokanmi said the situation had contributed significantly to unhygienic practices and posed serious public health concerns.

While presenting the motion, Mr Oluwafowokanmi contended that many residents and visitors to commercial areas were often left with no option but to resort to open defecation due to the lack of accessible sanitary facilities.

He said the situation undermines government efforts to improve environmental sanitation and achieve sustainable public health standards.

“The provision of public toilets in commercial premises would not only improve hygiene standards, but also help reduce environmental pollution and the spread of diseases associated with poor sanitation,” the lawmaker said.

Mr Oluwafowkanmi, therefore, tasked the executive arm of government with formulating and enforcing policies to make the provision of toilet facilities mandatory in all commercial buildings across the state.

The Speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, however, urged the relevant government agencies, including the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and the Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), to take immediate steps to ensure compliance by owners of commercial properties.

Mr Ogundoyin also tasked the agencies with strengthening monitoring mechanisms to ensure the availability and maintenance of sanitary facilities in public and commercial spaces.
