Oyo govt adopts use of concrete pavement on Ibadan township road

The Oyo State government has settled for using the concrete pavement on a portion of Zion Plaza-Olusoji road in Ibadan.
The Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) chairman, Busoye Ogunlade, stated this on Monday in Ibadan while inspecting the road.
The road links the Alao-Akala expressway from Oluyole Estate in the state capital.
Mr Ogunlade said the agency decided to settle for reinforced concrete technology on the 1.45-metre section of the road after a flood had destroyed the asphalt overlay on it.
He said the concrete pavement would end pavement failures caused by floods and years of infrastructural neglect on the road.
The chairman said the use of concrete pavement on road construction had been tested in many states, with a life span of 50 years compared with roads with asphalt, which could only last for 15 years.
He assured motorists and other road users plying the road that the concrete overlay arrangement would be a permanent solution to challenges on the road.
