Oyo: Landlord, associate arrested for allegedly killing tenant over rent

Operatives of the Oyo State police command have arrested and remanded a landlord and his associate in Abolongo prison over the killing of a tenant resident in his house in Oriyangi, Ibadan.
The command, in a statement on X, on Sunday, said the tenant, identified as OlaYeni, was engaging in an altercation with the landlord when his associate allegedly struck him, leading to his demise.
In a statement titled, “Landlord voluntarily becomes tenant at Abolongo following violent incident”, the command said, “On September 3, 2025, a tragic event in Ibadan’s Oriyangi area resulted in a tenant’s death after a dispute with his landlord over rent payments.
“During the altercation, the landlord’s associate allegedly struck the tenant, OlaYeni, leading to his collapse. Emergency responders arrived promptly but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.”
Stating that a thorough investigation is underway, the command expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and assured them that justice would be served.
