Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command on Friday, arrested one Garuba Aminu, who disguised as a scavenger and in possession of a human leg.

The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, in a statement on Saturday, said the human part was found among empty plastic bottles inside the sack he was carrying, prompting an attempted mob action which the police thwarted.

Mr Ayanlade said, “The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the arrest of one Garuba Aminu, ‘M’, aged 20 years, for unlawful possession of a suspected human part. On 20th February, 2026 at about 8:00 a.m., the suspect, who disguised as a scavenger at the Commercial Oroki area of Oyo, was strongly suspected by vigilance members of the community due to his strange movements and conduct.

“Acting promptly and responsibly, concerned residents subjected him to a search, during which a cut lower right leg suspected to be a human part was discovered inside a large sack containing waste plastic bottles in his possession. Upon receipt of the report, a police joint patrol team, in collaboration with other security partners, swiftly rushed to the scene where an angry mob had gathered with intent to lynch the suspect. The team professionally dispersed the mob and rescued him from imminent harm, while the suspected human part was recovered as exhibit and secured for forensic and investigative purposes.”

According to Mr Ayanlade, the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet and a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Commending the vigilantes for their alertness and timely action which led to the detection and arrest of the suspect, the command urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police formation.

Members of the public were however cautioned against taking the laws into their hands or engaging in mob action, noting that such acts were unlawful and capable of obstructing justice.
