Para-games: Katsina deaf school emerges champion

The Katsina School for the Deaf, Malumfashi, has emerged as the overall champion of the just-concluded maiden edition of Governor Dikko Radda Para-Games School Competition held in Katsina.
The school emerged as the overall champion of the competition, outperforming six other specialised schools from across the state that took part in the games.
The school won by clinching seven gold, seven silver and four bronze medals.
The School for the Blind and Deaf in Katsina came second with six gold, eight silver, and nine bronze medals, followed by the Community School for the Blind in Daura.
Speaking at the event, Muhammad Isah-Abba, special adviser to the president on people with special needs, described the event as groundbreaking.
He commended the Katsina government for organising the event and urged other states to emulate it.
The commissioner for sports, Surajo Yazid-Abukur, reiterated the commitment of Governor Radda’s administration to sports development at all levels.
Zaharaddeen Nasarawa, who spoke on behalf of the competition planning team, said the objectives include hunting for talent.
According to him, it is a talent pipeline, one that will nurture future champions for national and international competitions, including the All-African Games.
“From para-soccer to athletics and football for the blind and deaf, the tournament showcased not just competition, but possibility,” he said.
