PDP, ADC, LP, others to field one presidential candidate against Tinubu in 2027

Opposition political parties, the Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress, have announced plans to field a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The resolution was contained in the communique issued at the end of the national summit of all opposition political party leaders, held at the Oyo State Government Banquet Hall in Ibadan on Saturday.
“Despite the onslaught and machination of the ruling party, the APC, to ensure that President Bola Tinubu emerges as the sole presidential candidate in 2027, we shall field candidates and contest the 2027 presidential and other elections,” the factional national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, said.
“We shall work towards fielding only one presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, which shall be agreed upon and supported by all participating opposition parties, in order to rescue our nation and the long-suffering masses,” he added
He added that decision was necessary to rescue the country and the Nigerian populace from the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The opposition parties also condemned the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, alleging that he has “shown bias” and displayed “open partisanship in favour of the ruling APC.”
The parties stated that Mr Amupitan was unfit to conduct the general elections, noting that “Nigerians across board have lost confidence in him and his capacity to deliver a free, fair, transparent and credible election.”
Other political parties present at the national summit include the People’s Redemption Party, Labour Party, Accord Party, All Progressives Movement (APM), Youth Party (YP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), among others.
