Sandy Onor, Cross River State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has promised to transform Ikom to reflect its true status as the commercial hub of the state, if elected.

Mr Onor made the promise when he met with stakeholders during his campaign tour of the central senatorial district of the state on Friday.

This is coming as the Igbo Community in Ikom pledged their support for the PDP candidate.

Mr Onor expressed worry over the neglect of Ikom as the commercial nerve city of the state by the current All Progressives Congress (APC) government in the state.

He said that if elected, his government would transform Ikom to assume its status as the commercial hub of Cross River.

“We will fix the decay infrastructure and other amenities needed to provide an enabling environment for business to thrive.

Meanwhile, the Igbo Community promised to mobilise resources to ensure victory of the PDP candidate at the poll.

President General of Igbo Community in Ikom, Prince Agwu, who spoke at the stakeholders meeting, said their support was based on the political trajectory of Mr Onor right from the advent of the present democratic dispensation.

He noted that outside Mr Onor’s passion for development, his experience stood him out amongst other candidates for the position.

Mr Agwu stressed that they were also happy with the PDP candidate’s choice of a female as his running mate.

“Sandy is the hope of Cross River,
he has everything needed to excel.
We are set to mobilise our people across the state towards his victory,” he said.

Ikom is the largest city outside Calabar, the capital of Cross River, and is located in the Central Senatorial district of the state.
