The Peoples Democratic Party has moved past the period of uncertainty over persistent litigation, the chairman of the party’s board of trustees, Mao Ohuabunwa, has said.

Mr Ohuabunwa, in a statement on Tuesday, said, “The party is now rebuilding and will come out stronger and better. The Federal High Court judgement delivered on Friday should be enough for those who have yet to accept the reality of a new PDP to beat a retreat.”

Mr Ohuabunwa, while hailing the judgement, said that the ruling was in line with an earlier ruling of the Supreme Court.

He said that, as the conscience and moral compass of the party, the BOT fully respects and accepts the judgement and would continue to respect the rule of law.

“Any other person parading himself as the chairman of the PDP BoT as a criminal impersonator would be made to face the full wrath of the law soon,” he said.

Mr Ohuabunwa urged party leaders to embrace reconciliation and collective responsibility, stressing that the PDP must remain focused on strengthening its internal structures so as to emerge victorious in the 2027 elections.

He assured that necessary steps will be taken to further strengthen the PDP’s unity, stability, and preparedness for upcoming electoral engagements.

On July 17, the Federal High Court, Abuja Division, struck out a lawsuit aimed at compelling INEC to recognise the Kabiru Turaki-led interim NWC of the PDP. Justice Salim Ibrahim ruled that the plaintiffs, led by Adolphus Wabara, lacked the locus standi to bring the case, noting it is an internal party matter.

Consequently, the court awarded N140 million in costs against the plaintiffs and N10 million against their counsel for a frivolous suit.

The Turaki-led faction has indicated they will appeal the ruling.
