PDP ward congresses transparent, peaceful in Adamawa: Official

Gebon Kataps, chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wards Congresses in Adamawa, has described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and orderly.
Mr Kataps, also the Secretary to the Taraba State Government, stated this in Girei while leading the monitoring team to the Local Government Area on Saturday.
He expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the party’s ward congresses across the 226 political wards of the state.
“So far so good, this is the third local government we are visiting, and we are very impressed with the early turnout of delegates, who have come out in their numbers to either vote for their candidates or affirm consensus candidates.
“We are also impressed with the unity we see among party members in all the wards visited, and the atmosphere has been very peaceful,” Mr Kataps said.
According to him, when more than one candidate is vying for a position, delegates are required to cast their votes. In cases of consensus, delegates are expected to affirm the agreed-upon candidates.
He also commended the role of women in the process, hailing their orderly conduct and high level of participation.
“The turnout of women is impressive in several polling units. Women were seen coming out in large numbers and maintaining order as they awaited the start of the elections.
“Even when men were moving around, the women stayed in line, which was quite commendable,” he said.
Hamza Madagali, the party’s organising secretary, said PDP had put everything in place to ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise at the grassroots.
He called on party members to remain peaceful and conduct themselves orderly during and after the exercise, noting that the local government and state congresses would soon come up.
The monitoring team was in the Yola-North, Yola-South, and Girei local government areas.
