PenCom launches free healthcare scheme for low-income pensioners

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) has inaugurated a free healthcare scheme for low-income pensioners.
The commission made this known in a statement in Abuja on Friday, and urged retirees under the contributory pension scheme to enrol in the free healthcare initiative, PenCare.
PenCom also said that retirees aged 60 and above who receive monthly pensions below N70,000 from Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) are eligible for the pilot programme.
It added that registration for 30,000 eligible retirees nationwide had opened on a first-come, first-served basis.
PenCom also advised interested retirees to register through its official website or the platforms of designated PFAs.
The commission described PenCare as “a corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at reducing retirees’ medical expenses and improving their well-being.”
It reaffirmed commitment to protecting pensioners’ dignity through accessible healthcare support under the initiative.
