The national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko, has asserted that the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has the chance of becoming Nigeria’s president in 2027.

“Obi has the potential to emerge as president in 2027 if we put our acts together,” Mr Tanko said at a one-day symposium organised by Obidients in Onitsha, Anambra State, on Saturday.

Speaking on the theme, “Repositioning the Obedient Movement for Greater Impact”, Mr Tanko said the party would prepare its agents ahead of the elections.

“We will have our agents prepared well before the 2027 general election, training and retraining them,” he said.

Mr Tanko said a new Nigeria was possible if the citizens elect the right candidate, claiming that Mr Obi won the 2023 general election, but electoral malpractice denied him the chance of becoming president.

The Labour Party and Mr Obi challenged the election result in court after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner, alleging Nigerians were robbed of their true choice.

“During the 2023 general election, we were accused of lacking structure, yet Peter Obi won the election but was denied victory due to electoral malpractice. This time, history will not repeat itself.

“A new Nigeria is possible if we start doing the right things in electing those who lead us. We are determined to end bad governance in Nigeria by ensuring the right people are elected,” Mr Tanko stated.

Speaking on the country’s situation, Mr Tanko said Nigerians, including the northerners, were dissatisfied with the APC-led government.

“We will advocate for electoral reform and champion it legally and physically. We will mobilise our people on the streets and in the courts and present our proposals to the National Assembly.

“The Obidient Movement seeks to empower Nigerian youths, advocating for meaningful change and accountability. Our mission aligns with the pursuit of good governance, justice, and equity,” he stated.
