At least three people have been killed and 10 others left wounded after a mass shooting attack in Philadelphia on Saturday night.

Gunfire erupted in the South Street neighbourhood near 3rd Street before midnight, Philadelphia police said.

Police officers found two semi-automatic handguns from the shooting scene, according to Inspector D.F. Pace, who noted shell casings trailing from the 200 block to the 300 block of South Street.

Two of the victims have been identified as a 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man. The suspect, unnamed at this time, is among those who were injured and is being treated at a local hospital for a non-life-threatening injury.

This year, Philadelphia has recorded over 200 shootings. Last week, the state recorded its 206th shooting after 12 people were shot and killed over the Memorial Day weekend. One of the victims was a 9-year-old boy.

An additional 15 people were recorded as injured in at least 15 separate shootings. A 4-year-old was among the wounded.

The latest in the string of shooter attacks comes days after a medical facility in Tulsa, Oklahoma was attacked. Five people, including the shooter, died.
