A 24-year-old phone repairer, Idowu Oyetayo, on Wednesday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly stealing cell phone worth N150, 000 belonging to a customer.

The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count charge of felony and theft.

The prosecutor, ASP Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 15, around 8:00 p.m at Ode-Erinje in the Okitipupa Local Government Area.

He alleged that the defendant stole one Itel A7 Android phone valued at N150, 000 belonging to the complainant, Monday Obamoyegun.

The prosecutor explained that the defendant was given the cell phone to repair but failed to fix the phone or return it to the owner.

Mr Orogbemi said that the offences contravened and were punishable under Sections 516 and 390 (9), Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The Chief Magistrate, Olanrewaju Adelegan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

He added that the surety must show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government.

He adjourned the case until August 25 for further hearing.
