Phone thieves stab passerby to death at Kaduna flyover, one suspect nabbed

The police command in Kaduna State has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the killing of a passerby during a robbery incident at Kawo Flyover in Kaduna.
The command’s Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna, said that the murder occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on March 28.
He said, “Details of the incident indicated that a gang of criminals attacked and stabbed a passerby near Mamu Oil, a few metres from the Kawo bridge, in an attempt to steal his mobile phone.
“Police operatives stationed under the bridge swiftly responded and rushed the victim to Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, the victim was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
He added that following the incident, detectives immediately launched an investigation leading to the arrest of one Aminu Lawal, also known as “Aminu Yayyafi,” who confessed to the crime.
Mr Hassan said that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigation.
According to him, the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, has directed the area commander, Metropolitan, the Divisional Police Officer, and other tactical teams to intensify operations so as to track down the remaining suspects.
The command urged residents to remain calm as the situation was under control, while giving the assurance that perpetrators would be brought to justice.
