Pink Awards recognises Soyinka’s impacts

The Pink Awards has honoured Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka with the Lifetime Achievement Award for literary excellence and social impact.
Veronica Okei, the initiator of the awards, announced this in a statement on Sunday.
The Pink Awards aims to celebrate outstanding individuals and organisations for achievements and contributions and promote a culture of excellence and recognition.
According to the statement, the decision to honour Mr Soyinka at the Pink Awards 11th Anniversary and Sixth Annual Award Ceremony is because he represents the core values for which the Pink Awards was initiated.
“He is a symbol of excellence, a source of inspiration and a testament to what can be achieved when passion, dedication and talent come together. Soyinka embodies the core values of the Pink Awards, including excellence, inspiration and dedication,” Ms Okei said.
At the event, Joe Okei-Odumakin, president of Women Arise for Change and promoter of Pink Awards, praised Soyinka’s six decades of activism.
Ms Okei-Odumakin highlighted Soyinka’s commitment to protecting individual rights and collective humanity.
“Soyinka’s remarkable career spans over 60 years, with numerous literary works, including plays, poems, essays and novels. His impact on literature and activism has been recognised globally, earning him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986.
“Soyinka’s personality and career in writing and activism epitomise core values of revolution, resilience and sheer commitment to protection of rights of the individual as well as the survival of our collective humanity,” she said.
