The Nigerian consulate general in Johannesburg has condemned the alleged brutal killing of a Nigerian national, Musa Yunana Joe, by yet-to-be-identified suspects in Witbank, Mpumalanga Province of South Africa.

A statement on Saturday by the consul general, Ninikanwa Okey-Uche, disclosed that the victim was murdered on June 28.

“The Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Johannesburg, South Africa, condemns in the strongest terms, the killing of one of its nationals, Musa Yunana Joe, by suspected criminals on 28th June 2026 in Witbank, Mpumalanga,” the statement said

Ms Okey-Uche added, “The continuing pattern of such terrible incidents raises questions over the safety of Nigerians and other foreigners in South Africa.

“While we expect the authorities to conduct urgent investigations and ensure that the perpetrators face the full wrath of the law, we appeal to our nationals to remain calm, law-abiding, and security-conscious, especially due to the ongoing xenophobic and afrophobic demonstrations in the country.”
