Uzbekistan slams general visa ban on Nigerian passport holders
The Republic of Uzbekistan has imposed a general visa ban on Nigerians from entering their country.
A Nigerian woman who applied for an Uzbek visa was denied and informed that the restrictions had recently been imposed on citizens of Nigeria and South Africa.
That the applicant held a valid Chinese stay permit did not alter her visa denial.
“Temporary restrictions have currently been introduced on the issuance of visas and entry into the Republic of Uzbekistan for citizens of your country,” the ministry of foreign affairs of Uzbekistan wrote in a message rejecting the visa application.
It was not immediately clear why Uzbekistan imposed the restrictions on Nigerians or how long they would remain in place.
Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to Peoples Gazette’s enquiry seeking clarification on the reasons for the restrictions and when they might be lifted.
