Plant explosion in Kano leaves one person dead

Two men have been rescued, while one was confirmed dead, following a fire explosion at an engine oil processing plant in Gezawa LGA, Kano state.
In a statement issued on Monday by the spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, the incident occurred on Sunday evening.
“We received a distress call from one Tasi’u Abubakar at about 6:26 p.m. and we sent our firemen and rescue team to the scene at about 6:34 p.m.,” he said.
Mr Abdullahi added that the uncompleted premises of about 200×100 feet used as an engine oil recycling plant reservoir, containing about 10,000 litres and a tanker, with registration number DJW 111 XA, were razed down by the fire.
He said that one of the victims sustained slight injuries while trying to flee from the fire.
He gave the names of the rescued persons as Baba Azare and Ibrahim Bakoro, both from Tsamiya Babba area of the state.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson said the service also received a distress call from one Abdullahi Abba that an accident occurred at Maiduguri road, Daurawa quarters in Tarauni Local Government Area of the state.
“We sent our rescue team to the scene shortly after we received the call.
“A Honda car, with registration number NSR 291 AW hit a street light, with a 35-year-old man badly affected,” he said.
Mr Abdullahi said that the victim was immediately conveyed to Murtala Muhammad Special Hospital for medical attention and was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
He said that the corpse of the victim had been handed over to Bala Muhammad of Kofar Wambai police division.
