The Plateau government has earmarked the sum of N33.3 billion, representing 21.88 per cent of the capital estimate of the 2024 budget, to the administrative sub-sector.

The Plateau House of Assembly had, in November last year, passed the 2024 appropriation bill, totalling N314.8 billion, which was signed into law by Gov. Caleb Mutfwang.

Out of the total budget size, the sum of N162.3 billion is for recurrent expenditure, while the sum of N152.5 billion is for capital expenditure.

Chrysanthus Dawam, the commissioner for budget and economic planning, said during the budget breakdown on Friday in Jos, that out of the sum earmarked for the administration, N10.149 was allocated to the legislative arm for capital expenditure.

“The sum of N8.635 billion is allocated to Government House administration and N13.44 billion for the office of the Secretary to the Government of the State, and other administrative sub-sectors for capital estimates,’’ he explained.

Mr Dawam stated that the land, housing, and urban development sub-sectors would gulp 21.4 billion, representing 14 per cent of the capital budget, to address land and housing deficits in the state.

The commissioner explained that out of the total sum for the sub-sector, N10 billion was earmarked for the ministry of housing and urban development capital estimate, while N10.7 was allocated to the Jos Metropolitan Development Board for its capital estimate.

He further explained that the ministry of lands and survey would get N335.5 million to execute its projects under the capital expenditure.

Mr Dewam stated that in order to boost agricultural activities, the state government had earmarked the sum of N12.1 billion to the agriculture and rural development subsector, representing seven per cent of the total capital budget.
