Plateau Fire Service on Wednesday has revealed it is grappling with inadequate fire stations, manpower and utility vehicles.

“We have 10 fire stations in Plateau to cover the 17 local government areas which are inadequate,” the service director, Caleb Polit, said in an interview on Tuesday.

Mr Polit explained that although the government had made funds available to fight fire incidents within the state, all hands must be on deck to fight the war.

The director, who said there was a need for public enlightenment on fire, disclosed that the state recorded 158 fire incidents in 2021.

The agency disclosed that it had recorded 36 fire outbreaks from January to date.

Mr Polit urged residents to have fire extinguishers at home and offices, advising them to buy from the agency’s fire stations.
