Helen Mutfwang, the wife of the Plateau governor, inaugurated a combined health campaign on Friday in Jos in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Health and other stakeholders.

Mrs Mutfwang said the health campaign would target immunisation, vaccination, and malaria elimination.

According to her, it will mark the inauguration of the National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs), African Vaccination Week, and the commemoration of World Malaria Day.

She said the initiative aligned with the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAP), which promoted unified planning, budgeting, and reporting in the health sector.

Mrs Mutfwang described the triple campaign as a major milestone in strengthening healthcare delivery across the state.

“The National Immunisations Plus Days will run from April 26 to 29, with health workers conducting house-to-house visits, market outreaches, and vaccinations at worship centres.

“Children aged 0-5 years will receive oral polio vaccines, while other routine immunisations will be available at health facilities statewide,” she said.

The governor’s wife said the focus would be on five local government areas: Jos East, Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Kanke, and Langtang South.

She said special outreach teams would target hard-to-reach communities to ensure no child was left unprotected against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Mrs Mutfwang noted that this year’s Malaria Day, with the theme: “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” called for renewed commitment, investment, and innovation to eliminate malaria in Plateau and beyond.

She, therefore, urged residents to support the immunisation drive and malaria prevention efforts, stressing that collective action was key to defeating these health challenges.

The governor’s wife assured citizens of the state government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes.

The event was attended by health officials, traditional leaders, and development partners, who pledged continued collaboration to ensure the success of the campaigns.

Free mosquito nets and malaria test kits were also distributed as part of the activities.
