Rep. Dalyop Fom (LP/Barkin Ladi/Riyom Federal Constituency) of Plateau has empowered 400 constituents, mainly victims of bandits’ attacks with vocational skills.

The beneficiaries, who were women and youths, were trained in fashion designing, barbing, hairdressing, soap making, oil extraction, among others.

Mr Fom, who presented trainees with materials and equipment, said on Sunday in Jos, that the gesture was to assist them to practise their new-found skills and earn a living.

He stated that he had been providing various forms of support, including financial assistance to petty traders and small business owners, as well as distributed agricultural inputs and tools to farmers.

“The initiative demonstrates my commitment to the welfare and development of my constituents, and it is my humble efforts to make positive impact in his community.

“The constituency intervention is designed to address the challenges faced by my constituents, including youth unemployment, poverty, and insurgency.

“I believe this gesture will help reduce the impact of current challenges and promote unity and equal representation in the communities.

“We have selected the beneficiaries, from all electoral wards of Barkin-Ladi and Riyom local government areas, and we trained them, and we have given the packages to start their businesses,” he said.

He urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the materials and equipment provided to  improve their economic well-being and those of their communities.

Mr Fom listed his achievements in the past ten months to include construction of classroom blocks, procurement of transformers, distribution of palliatives to victims of bandits’ attacks, and promotion of peaceful coexistence by engaging religious and traditional leaders.

John Tondu of Joternam Limited Abuja, who coordinated the three-day training, said the aim of the training was to ensure those that were selected and presented with the machines and equipment by the lawmaker have the requisite knowledge to use them.

The traditional rulers of Ganuwuri and Barkin Ladi commended the lawmaker for empowering youths, women, widows, and victims of insurgency in the constituency.
