Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the deadly attack on Angwan Rukuba in Jos North LGA of Plateau on Palm Sunday. 

In a statement on Monday, Mr Obi described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as indecisive, accusing the president of normalising killings and kidnappings in the country. 

“The recurring loss of innocent lives in Plateau state reminds us, yet again, of the insecurity innocent citizens face in our nation without any protection,” said Mr Obi. “These continuous devastating headlines are a reminder of a nation that is steadily normalising the loss of its own people. No nation or leader normalises tragedy.” 

The politician, who decried the frequent attacks as “unacceptable”, berated Mr Tinubu’s government for its lack of sustained energy to curtail the killings and kidnappings ravaging the country. 

Charging the government to address the situation head-on, Mr Obi reiterated that the safety of Nigerian lives must become non-negotiable.

“We cannot continue to mourn what should have been prevented. Enough is enough,” Mr Obi stated. 

The presidency could not be immediately reached for comment on Mr Obi’s latest allegations. 

Meanwhile, the Christian Association of Nigeria on Monday described the incident as “tragic and unacceptable” and called for an immediate probe.

Daniel Oko, CAN’s president, said, “This is not just tragic. It is unacceptable. We mourn, we grieve, but we must also speak the truth. How did we get here? How is it that people can no longer feel safe in their own homes? How is it that, even on a sacred day, communities are left exposed to such terror?”
