Plateau women protest monarch’s removal

Several women from Mushere village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State staged a peaceful protest on Monday over the removal of their monarch, Julius K. Diblang.
The protest, which began around 10 a.m., lasted about two hours, according to Kefas Mallai, the Chairman of Community Peace Observers in Bokkos. He said the aggrieved women marched from Mushere chiefdom to the local government secretariat in Bokkos town.
“Today, Monday 13th April 2026, women of Mushere chiefdom came out in mass protesting over the suspension of their king, Dr Julius K. Diblang, who was suspended from office recently.
“His people love him so much. That is why they came out in mass protesting with some of them dangling their breasts”, Mr Mallai told Peoples Gazette.
He added that all the protesters were women who wore black and marched to the secretariat to demand action over the suspension of their council monarch.
“They were crying and protesting. They went to the local government council to see the chairman and to ask him why their chief was suspended by the governor”, he told The Gazette in a telephone interview.
He, however, said the protesters demanded his reinstatement, adding that they told him his removal was orchestrated against him.
“Some of the protesters told me the suspension of the monarch was connected to the recent release of Mr Jethro Ngusen, who was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and killing of Senator Joshua Dariye’s father”, he said.
When contacted for clarification, Amalau Samuel, the chairman of Bokkos LGA, told The Gazette to call those on the ground protesting.
“I’m not from Mushere,” he said.
