Police arraign 37-year-old man over illegal possession of pistol

Mr Ibrahim alleged that the defendant unlawfully possessed the pistol, which he could not give a satisfactory account of.

One Kamoru Hammed, 37, appeared before the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Friday over alleged possession of a locally-made pistol.

Mr Hammed, whose address was not provided, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Toyin Ibrahim, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 28 at 4:30 p.m. in Apete, Ibadan.

Mr Ibrahim alleged that the defendant unlawfully possessed the pistol, which he could not give a satisfactory account of.

He said the offence contravened section 417 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The magistrate, Kausarat Ayofe, granted the defendant N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until June 19 for a hearing.
