Police arraign 38-year-old Ibadan man over multimillion-naira fraud

On Friday, the police arraigned a 38-year-old, Festus Olubiyo, before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly obtaining N7.9 million under false pretences.
Mr Olubiyo was charged with obtaining under false pretences and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in June and December 2023 in the Ogunpa area of Ibadan.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the money from Temitope Adebayo under the pretext of assisting him in paying school fees at a school in the United Kingdom.
He alleged that the defendant failed to do so and converted the money for personal use.
The magistrate, Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendant bail of N3.5 million with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Sanusi-Zubair held that the two sureties must be the defendant’s blood relations and be gainfully employed.
She, thereafter, adjourned the case until February 28 for a hearing.
