Police arraign 51-year-old man over alleged assault

The police in Lagos on Wednesday arraigned a 51-year-old man, John Ajose, at a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, over alleged assault.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of felony and assault.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 25 at Setomo Compound beside Wilbros Company, Ajido, Badagry, Lagos.
Mr Ekpo alleged that the defendant conspired with others at large to commit felony to wit assault occasioning harm.
“The defendant assaulted the complainant, Olubiyi Oluwaseun, by beating him and cutting him with sharp object on his right hand. He was arrested in his home and handed over to police for prosecution,” the prosecutor said.
Ekpo said that offences contravened Sections 411 and 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum N50,000 with one surety in the like sum.
He said that one of the sureties must be a community leader with evidence of payment of tax.
Mr Layeni adjourned the case until September 18, for mention.
