Police arraign bank employee for allegedly stealing N6.6 million

A 28-year-old bank employee, Chidinma Nkemdirim, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing ₦6.6 million belonging to FCMB Microfinance Bank, Ketu branch.
Ms Nkemdirim, whose address was not provided, is facing a charge of stealing by trick.
According to the charge, the defendant committed the offence between January and July while working at the bank located at No. 454/457 Ikorodu Road, Ketu.
The prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, alleged that Ms Nkemdirim fraudulently converted the said sum to her personal use, property of her employer.
The prosecutor told the court that the alleged theft was uncovered following an internal audit at the microfinance bank.
She said the offence contravened Section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The magistrate, L.A. Owolabi, granted the defendant ₦800,000 bail with two sureties in like sum, who must be gainfully employed and reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned until December 1 for further hearing.
